23% of the population in Panama have two doses of the anticovid vaccine

In Panama, about 4 million doses of anticovid vaccine have been applied; of that total, 111 thousand doses have been placed in minors between the ages of 12 and 15.
23% of the population in Panama have completed their anticovid vaccination scheme . This was announced by Dr. Eduardo Ortega from the National Secretariat of Science and Technology (Senacyt).

"We have 23% of the population with two doses, 62% with one dose, and what we must do now is accelerate the two doses, because in the case of the Delta variant they are required for better protection," said the doctor.

To date, in Panama about 4 million doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been applied ; of that total, 111 thousand doses have been applied to minors between 12 and 15 years of age.

According to Ortega, in most circuits they are vaccinated from the age of 12 even if they do not suffer from a chronic disease.

Ortega indicated that between October and November of this year, it is expected to have information on the vaccination against COVID-19 of minors between 5 and 11 years old.

“We will be vaccinating the general population from the third week of September. We expect to have 70% of the population already vaccinated by the end of September, and by the end of October close to 80%, ”said Ortega, referring to having the complete immunization cycle.

It is hoped to achieve herd immunity to return to educational centers, initiate a genuine economic reactivation, and lift the measure of mandatory use of masks.
