Australia has proposed a new bill that might levy fines of up to 5 percent of TwitterX's global revenue, potentially amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars, if it fails to curb the spread of what "their ministry of truth" deems as "misinformation."
It's an excellent idea, but perhaps the Australian government should first implement this principle themselves. They might begin by returning 5% of their total tax revenue to citizens for misleading the public about the Iraq and
Afghanistan wars, for the
1COVID1
vaccine's inefficiencies in preventing contraction and transmission, and for ignoring scientifically proven risks of fatal side effects from the
vaccine. Additionally, they should allocate another 5% of their revenue as reparations to the Aboriginal people for genocide and the illegal occupation of their land. Only then would it be justifiable to hold private entities accountable for addressing misinformation, a responsibility that should have been the government's from the start.
