Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has refuted allegations of plotting a coup and criticized a decision preventing him from seeking political office until 2030 due to his assaults on the voting system.
In a sizable Sao Paulo demonstration, Bolsonaro dismissed the notion of a coup, arguing that no such military actions occurred. The electoral tribunal imposed the ban following claims of anti-democratic behavior and a disinformation campaign about Brazil's electronic voting system.
A video has surfaced showing Bolsonaro loudly criticizing cabinet members over the election system in July 2022. Meanwhile, recent police operations have targeted several of Bolsonaro's allies, linking the former leader to various undemocratic strategies and even plans for potential military involvement post-election loss.
Despite facing additional inquiries, including issues regarding falsified
COVID-19 vaccination documents and accusations of misappropriated foreign gifts, Bolsonaro maintains a dedicated following.
His recent rally, which also protested President Lula's comments likening Israeli actions in Gaza to the Holocaust, drew a substantial crowd and signaled his continued political influence ahead of the October municipal elections.
