Texas Congresswoman Kay Granger Located in Nursing Home Following Six Months of Inactivity

Prolonged absence prompts pressing concerns regarding representation, taxpayer-funded salaries, and the responsibilities of public office.
Kay Granger, a seasoned congresswoman and the first Republican woman to represent Texas in the U.S. Congress, was recently found living in a Fort Worth senior facility specializing in dementia care.

This discovery followed Granger's six-month absence from public activities, including congressional voting, leading to concerns from both constituents and colleagues.

**Unaccounted For Six Months**
Questions arose from local media and political analysts when Granger ceased attending key House votes and public appearances.

Efforts to ascertain her location were fruitless for several months.

Eventually, a tip led “The Dallas Express” to a luxury senior living center in Fort Worth, where staff confirmed Granger's residence.

The informant stated she had previously been spotted wandering her neighborhood, appearing disoriented.

**Within the Facility**
Reports suggest that Granger’s residence costs about $4,000 monthly, offering specialized care for memory loss patients.

Amenities reportedly include 24-hour security, game rooms, a movie theater, an indoor pool, and tailored fitness classes.

The facility also features a skilled nursing section for residents requiring additional medical care.

**Effects on Representation**
Granger’s extended absence from congressional responsibilities has raised concerns about the representation of her district’s citizens during her recovery or inability to perform her duties.

While her staff continues to receive taxpayer-funded salaries, many question whether true representation is attainable without her active participation in legislative processes.

Ronaldo Garcia, part of the Republican committee in Texas’s 12th District, expressed disappointment: “It’s tough to see someone who served so long become physically or mentally unable to work, but it’s more concerning that no plan was communicated to the constituents.”

**A Historic Career**
Once lauded for breaking barriers as Fort Worth’s first female mayor and Texas’s first Republican woman in Congress, Granger was known for her focus on local development, infrastructure, and education.

Her more than two decades of service are now clouded by doubts about her ability to resume her duties and why the public was not informed sooner.

**Future Actions**
Neither Granger’s office nor GOP leadership has provided an official statement on her apparent memory issues or their plans to address the gap in representation.

Political analysts point out that Congress lacks mandatory retirement age or health requirements, making decisions about resignation, leave, or continued service primarily the official’s choice.
