Apede asks specification on plans to reactivate SMEs

Apede asks specification on plans to reactivate SMEs

The Panamanian Association of Business Executives (Apede) reiterated that the administration of President Laurentino Cortizo must urgently define "specific plans for economic and labor revival" for micro, small and medium-sized companies.
According to Apede members, the economic and labor reactivation must be carried out in a "clear and forceful way".

Apede's position was revealed last night in a statement, in which they also emphasize that they see with optimism the plans that the President has already revealed for the reactivation by blocks of the local economy.

With clear plans, the effects of Covid-19 will be better dealt with, Apede noted, while emphasizing that "the continuity of operations of these affected companies due to confinement measures" must be ensured.

"There are still specific questions and doubts that must be addressed in a personalized way and through more effective mechanisms on crucial issues, such as access to funds that have been obtained by the various multilateral organizations," said Apede.

They also want to know the “working conditions” with which the gradual opening can be carried out, so that its implementation is viable, considering the real conditions of small businesses.

The union recalled that these businesses "face great obstacles by not having the capacity for additional investments" and for the formulation and certification of protocols or the establishment of specific areas.

On the other hand, regarding "independent professionals and non-profit organizations" it is required that the measures adopted by the Government during this stage of gradual uprising are taken within the constitutional framework and that they aim to generate actions that counteract the impact economic of this pandemic

He added that these sectors, like micro, small and medium-sized companies, have been severely affected and "have specific needs that must be adequately addressed."
