A fatal shark attack has been reported at a beach resort in Mexico's Pacific coast, with a woman found deceased by emergency responders in Melaque Bay, Cihuatlán.
Authorities, who have yet to identify the victim, revealed she had suffered a severed leg, suggesting a shark was responsible.
The tragedy coincided with a swim race in Jalisco state's bay area. Unverified social media footage shows an individual with a missing leg being rescued from the water.
Following the attack, local beaches have been shut, and patrols are advising against swimming. Warning flags have been erected on the beaches.
Both Cihuatlán and nearby La Huerta municipal governments have issued alerts on
Facebook, emphasizing public safety and reporting a shark near Jalisco's southern coast.
