On Wednesday, social media platform X, formerly Twitter, became accessible again in Brazil by inadvertently bypassing a Supreme Court-ordered block.
X used third-party cloud services from Cloudflare to allow some users access without a VPN, according to the Brazilian Association of Internet and Telecommunications Providers (Abrint).
The block was initially imposed after disputes between X owner
Elon Musk and Brazilian justice Alexandre de Moraes.
Although the update allowed access, Brazil’s national telecommunications agency, Anatel, planned to reimpose the block with Cloudflare's cooperation.
X stated this service restoration was inadvertent and temporary, arising from a switch in network providers to continue service in Latin America.
The issue drew criticism from the White House, advocating for unrestricted social media access, which Musk acknowledged with appreciation.
