12 years in prison for murdering a man with machetes in Veraguas

Omar López Pérez was found with a machete with which he attacked Carlos in the neck, torso and arms.
Omar Alejandro López Pérez, 23 years old, was sentenced to 12 years in prison in several hearings held in the Accusatory Penal System, city of Santiago, for the homicide to the detriment of Carlos Pérez Bonilla, 49 years old, made of blood registered this past weekend in the community of Zapotillo, district of Las Palmas, provinces of Veraguas.

Moisés Tuñón, prosecutor for Homicide and Femicide in Veraguas, said that the conviction was achieved after a sentence agreement, in which López Pérez accepted having killed Carlos Pérez Bonilla with machetes, under the influence of alcohol and who turned out to be a relative of the deceased.

Carlos Pérez Bonilla, 49, was killed with a machete by a man to whom he had just sold a cow, and who even minutes before had been seen happily swimming together, under the influence of alcohol.

Pérez Bonilla's wife said that on Saturday morning, her partner had sold a cow to Omar López Pérez, and had been drinking liquor with the buyer.

Then, around 7 at night, she heard Carlos walking back down the highway, but he never entered the house. After a while, they told him that he had died.

Other witnesses said that she saw Carlos and Omar walking down the highway together, and then was shocked to learn of the murder.
