La AMP se acoge a las normas internacionales para proteger a las ballenas en el Golfo de Panamá

AMP orders ships to travel at a speed of 10 knots to protect whales

The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) issued a circular order for vessels transiting in the Panama Bay traffic separation scheme, to reduce their speed to a maximum of 10 knots, in order to protect the life of the whales.
We are in whale season and it is our duty to take care of and protect them. For this reason, we have issued a circular where ships, when transiting the traffic separation scheme of the Bay of Panama, must reduce their speed to a maximum of 10 knots, indicates the AMP.

Previously, the Panama Canal had also established guidelines that would run from August 1 to November 30, noting that in that period the international recommendations for the protection of cetaceans during the migration season and sightings of these mammals in waters will be in force. Panamanians.

The annual speed and maritime traffic recommendations have been established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) since 2014, which limits the navigation speed of vessels through the established areas to 10 knots.
