Assembly suspends three officials after questioning purchase of masks

The National Assembly announced on Monday afternoon suspending the Administrative Director, Head of Purchasing and the Quotator, while the investigation is still on-going for the questioned purchasing process of 7,000 masks at a price of $ 2.50.
In a statement, the State body also announced that it suspended the payment of this purchase, until the Public Ministry and the General Comptroller of the Republic determine the existence of a crime or an administrative offense.

However, the entity reported that the act of contracting for the acquisition of the masks, complied with the corresponding administrative procedure, as mandated by law, which was endorsed by the Comptroller General of the Republic.

However, the statement highlights that, in order to comply with the basic principle of transparency that must reign in all public procurement, we have made the determination to initiate an investigation, in order to clarify responsibilities and to clarify the facts that they are contained in the file.

The institution highlights that in the face of the administrative act for the purchase of the masks, various criticisms have arisen, which has led the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic to communicate via social networks that payment will be denied until the acquisition price is adjusted. For this purchase process, the Comptroller General of the Republic, Gerardo Solís sanctioned with the suspension for three days of his functions the inspector of this entity in the National Assembly.
