The Brazilian Ministry of Health reported a record 1,595 deaths from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours on Wednesday, although the increase is due in part to the fact that the most populous state in the South American nation provided the number of deaths recorded in two days.
The previous record number of deaths in one day in Brazil was imposed on June 4, with 1,473. Deaths have been on the rise for five weeks in a row as the
coronavirus has spread to new regions, and deaths have averaged more than 1,000 a day.
Authorities reported that the populous state of Sao Paulo did not report deaths from
COVID-19 on Tuesday due to a technical problem with the count. As a result, his figure of 713 deaths on Wednesday included those of two days.
The Brazilian Ministry of Health has registered 90,134 deaths so far in the pandemic and more than 2.5 million confirmed cases. Those are the second highest numbers in the world, behind only the United States.
