Carlos Bolsonaro, a city councilor for Rio de Janeiro, is purported to be implicated in the scheme. The probe also recently encompassed raids on the home and workplace of Bolsonaro's ex-intelligence chief and Liberal Party federal lawmaker, Alexandre Ramagem.

The investigation centers on claims that Abin employed a surveillance software called FirstMile to monitor the movements of various public figures, including judiciary members and politicians.

The fallout from these allegations has reached Bolsonaro's political allies and family, with two more sons named in court documents related to the espionage.

This inquiry comes amid increased legal challenges for Bolsonaro following his electoral loss to Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The police are focusing on the "political core" of the alleged espionage ring, seeking to determine those who benefitted from the illicit activities.
