Carrizo announces accountability for public spending related COVID-19

The Vice President of the Republic and Minister of the Presidency, José Gabriel "Gaby" Carrizo , announced that starting this Wednesday, April 29, a weekly report will be submitted on the management of State resources to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.
Carrizo's reaction comes after several days of questions about transparency in the purchase of supplies and equipment with an alleged surcharge and to companies with no experience as suppliers of medical devices and related.

"I have instructed the purchasing commission # COVID19 to carry out the First Accountability today and that every Wednesday it render a weekly report to the country, on the use of the resources assigned to address this pandemic," Carrizo wrote. on his Twitter account.

Carrizo also requested the Public Procurement Directorate to publish in the transparency section all the contracts made by the Presidency in this emergency period.

The intention to acquire 100 fans for $ 5.2 million and the purchase of 2.5 million bottles of alcohol gel for $ 13.3 million, led various sectors of society to demand transparency in the purchasing process. Both purchases were managed by the former Juan Carlos Muñoz, vice minister of the Presidency, who stepped down last Monday and will be replaced by Carlos García.

The Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office of the Public Ministry investigates the purchases of fans and alcohol gel bottles.

The Presidency has also awarded contracts for advertising and branding services , amid the pandemic.

Likewise, the population claims to know the management of funds in the construction of the modular hospital that was built in Albrook, for coronavirus patients. The hospital would originally be priced at $ 6.5 million.
