Cortizo: reopening schedule will be maintained "as is"

The President of Panama, Laurentino Cortizo reported that the schedule for the reopening of new sectors of the economy will be maintained "as is", despite the suggestion of the business sector to shorten the dates and frame a schedule for the month of September.
I do not share views with this suggestion; we are going to keep the reopening schedule the way it is, giving time to see the behavior of the virus, especially in the activities that are opening on September 7, see how that behavior will be, to analyze and proceed; the idea is not to open them all in the month of September and have an absolute quarantine in October, said Cortizo.

He recalled that with the opening of the second block analyzed each week it was seen how the number of positives went rapidly up, so the behavior of these activities is observed, as well as the hospital capacity is important.

The chief executive expressed that he would like to open everything, after the drastic fall in current income which it is not easy for a lot of people. However, we are going to keep the opening schedule as it is, he said.

The president of the Panamanian Association of Business Executives, Héctor Cotes, considered that as a private company they feel that the “Updated National-Provincial Reopening Plan” proposed by the National Government is insufficient, since they should already open most businesses, tourism can not wait until September 28 with the existing aviation issue, hotels opening on another date, while there are activities that do not have dates at all.

Cotes stated in the Radiography program broadcast by EcoTv and RPC Radio that the same rules should be established for all businesses.

According to him, what is asked is effective, and they ask the Government to maintain dialogue with private companies.

The request of the private sector made to the government authorities indicates that Panama still has economic activities that cannot continue for another week without operating.
