Publio De Gracia, General Director of Revenues (DGI), said that despite the fall in revenues of $1.8 billion below the budget between the months of January to September of this year, the government does not contemplate creating new taxes.
De Gracia indicated that collection is expected to improve in the coming months with the tax relief laws, however, he warned that it is likely that not all budget results for this fiscal period will be covered.
The DGI is being efficient in guaranteeing the opening of spaces for taxpayers to comply with their obligations, in the midst of the difficult situation, with the implementation of laws such as the Tax Amnesty and the Prompt Payment law, said De Gracia.
Despite the crisis generated by the
COVID-19 pandemic, the DGI director said that collections have improved in the months of August and September.
He assured that the resources of all the social and aid programs such as 120 at 65, the 'guardian angel' and the 'universal scholarship', among others, are assured, in addition to the support for the Panama Solidario Program.
President Laurentino Cortizo also ruled out the possibility of a tax increase, saying that it is not an option for this government.
