Piden a las personas cumplir con las medidas de bioseguridad que ha brindado el Minsa

Dr. Labrador: 'We have already had cases of patients with dengue and COVID-19 at the same time'

The head of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), Leonardo Labrador confirmed that in Panama cases of patients with dengue and COVID-19 have been treated at the same time, and the consequences are of greater care, since both produce inflammatory processes of some organs.
Labrador stated that they maintain intensified epidemiological surveillance, however he calls on the population not to rule out any other disease that is not coronavirus, such as colds, influenza and dengue, since the person suffers from general symptoms such as headache, in the body and in the long run they are very common, among viruses.

He expressed that in 2020, there was a decrease in dengue cases in Panama, compared to previous years, until December 29, 1,910 cases and a total of 5 deaths were confirmed.

Regarding the research carried out by the Gorgas Memorial Institute for Health Studies (ICGES), of the two strains of the coronavirus that are highly contagious, Dr. Labrador said that it is a double-edged sword, since we know that the strains can to be circulating in Panama and that means that there are a greater number of cases, but it is getting complicated based on the comorbidities or diseases that patients may have.

They ask people to comply with the biosafety measures that the Minsa has provided, such as leaving their home at their due time, depending on the last identification number and the day that corresponds to them. In addition to the use of a mask or a visor, hand washing with soap and water, use of alcoholic gel and keep the physical distance of 2 meters.
