Samsung Launches AI-Driven Galaxy S24, Ushering in New Smartphone Era

Samsung Electronics has introduced the Galaxy S24, its first AI smartphone lineup, igniting the use of generative AI to rejuvenate the smartphone sector.
The series, powered by Google's Gemini and bolstered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor, boasts live call translation, AI-enhanced note-taking, and more.

TM Roh, head of Samsung's Mobile Experience, emphasized AI's transformative role in mobile technology, with the Galaxy serving as a key AI platform. The S24 phones combine advanced AI features with energy-efficient processing and a sturdy titanium build.

Privacy-conscious users can choose between cloud processing or local, on-device AI — albeit with limited features. Although these features debut in the S24 series, Samsung plans to extend Galaxy AI to tablets and wearables.

Available in three models — the S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra — prices range from $799 to $1,299. Pre-order starts today, with sales beginning January 31.

According to Counterpoint Research, AI-capable phones, projected to account for 8% of shipments by 2024, will see Samsung leading amidst fierce competition. By 2027, AI smartphones might constitute 40% of the market.

With an anticipated market revival in 2024, Samsung is preparing to increase smartphone production to over 240 million units, up 9% from its early 2023 forecast.
