On Monday evening, a small plane crashed into a hangar at an airfield near Warsaw, Poland, resulting in the death of five people and injuries to seven others.

Health Minister Adam Niedzielski confirmed the number of fatalities and injuries, with Polish media reporting that people had been sheltering from the bad weather in the hangar.

The fire brigade stated that the weather was a "probable cause" for the crash, with Monika Nowakowska-Brynda, a spokeswoman for the fire brigade, revealing that four helicopters and 10 ambulances were dispatched to the scene of the incident in the village of Chrcynno, which is located 47 kilometers (29 miles) from Warsaw.

The local fire department confirmed the incident on its Facebook page, posting a photo of the tail of the plane sticking out of the hangar.

Polish media identified the plane that crashed as a Cessna 208.

AFP reported that police were called to the accident at 17:40 GMT, with local police spokeswoman Joanna Wielocha confirming the incident.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
