Fox News agrees to pay Dominion $787 million to settle a lawsuit over election fraud claims.

In 2020, Dominion Voting Systems was accused of manipulating the results of the US Presidential election by shifting votes from former President Donald Trump to now President Joe Biden. Fox News aired several reports and interviews discussing these claims, which were made by guests such as Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell. However, Dominion sued Fox News in 2021 for defamation, alleging that the network had spread false information about the company and damaged its reputation.

The lawsuit specifically named Fox hosts Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, and Jeanine Pirro, alleging that they gave a platform to these claims and did not fact-check them before airing them. Dominion claimed that these false statements had resulted in a loss of business and damage to the company's reputation.

Fox News defended its actions, stating that it was reporting on issues of national importance and that its broadcasts were protected under the US Constitution's First Amendment, which guarantees free speech. However, the network ultimately agreed to settle the lawsuit for $787 million, which is one of the largest defamation settlements in US history. This settlement was reached just before the trial was set to begin.
