The Government Commission of the National Assembly of Panama approved in the first debate this Tuesday the second block of the electoral reforms projectN ° 544, which included articles 76 to 119, and it was announced that after a recess this Wednesday the discussion would begin for the approval of the third block of reforms to the Electoral Code.

According to the president of the Commission, Víctor Castillo, about 100 articles of the proposal presented by the National Commission for Electoral Reforms (CNRE) have been maintained.

"Leaving 100 articles of the originals and the modifications that were made, the truth is that they are articles that have a lot to do with what the campaign time is, with regard to paid propaganda, written propaganda ... if they realized it was a fairly open debate. The Prosecutor's Office even contributed some initiatives that were taken into account, a new article," Castillo said.

The president of the Commission added that the informed vote will be maintained as provided by the current Electoral Code and pointed out that the criminal jurisdiction is also maintained.

Castillo added about the withdrawal of the Electoral Court magistrates that they should be kept in the debate for the good of the country and the next electoral elections, although they did not share the modifications and about the time that was shortened for their exposure to Magistrate Heriberto Araúz indicated that the time given to him in the Commission was not appropriate for them.
