The health authorities of Panama asked the population to try to confine themselves so as not to be exposed to COVID-19 , which registers a strong rebound in this country that has already accumulated 187,779 confirmed cases and 3,309 deaths since last March.
In its bulletin yesterday, Friday, December 11, the Ministry of Health (
Minsa) reported 2,355 new cases of the disease, the third highest figure in this month of December, which is registering records of new infections in the country and percentages of positivity up to 21.8%.
The Minister of Health, Luis Francisco
Sucre, appealed to the population "to try to confine themselves so as not to expose themselves to the risk of infection and avoid crowds" due to the escalation of cases precisely when the Christmas holidays come.
Panama, a country of 4.2 million inhabitants, has registered a "rebound" in the
covid since the first week of November that the authorities have linked to the almost full opening of the economy as of October 12 after more than seven months closed and to the disorder of a minority of the population.
The authorities have tightened sanctions and measures against the
coronavirus with the extension of the night curfew and the prohibition of the sale of liquor at those hours in the provinces of Panama, where the capital is located, and the contiguous Panama West - which bring together almost half of the country's population - and they have assured that they want to avoid a new shutdown of the battered economy.
"It cannot be that after so many sacrifices, the decision we must make now is to close" economic activities again, said the president, Laurentino Cortizo, on Friday, after predicting that "completely complicated days and weeks" will come and ask the population utmost care.
