Teleconsulta Médica del Instituto Oncológico Nacional (ION)

ION reinforces biosecurity measures after increase in COVID-19 cases in Panama

The National Oncological Institute (ION), Juan Demosthenes Arosemena, reported this Friday that they will reinforce prevention measures due to the increase in COVID-19 cases, knowing the space limitations in their current facilities.
Through a statement, the ION requested the support of the relatives of patients avoiding the influx to its facilities, when this is not strictly necessary.

During hospitalization and when absolutely "necessary, a caregiver will be allowed, who must remain with the patient in the room."

Access to the outpatient clinic will only be allowed to the patient and in exceptional cases when the condition warrants it, to a companion.

The statement signed by Dr. Juan Carlos Alcedo Velarde, general director of the ION, adds that the number of teleconsultations will be increased when their doctors deem the use of this modality appropriate, in order to reduce crowding in waiting rooms.

Likewise, the drugs that are prescribed during these teleconsultations will continue to be sent to pharmacy branches near the patient's home.

They reiterate the use of a surgical mask / face mask, hand washing and physical distancing.

The ION calls on the population and urges them to comply with basic preventive hygiene measures, in order to reduce the risk of contagion of COVID-19.
