Law initiative seeks to reveal the final beneficiaries in government contracts to prevent corruption

Law initiative seeks to reveal the final beneficiaries in government contracts to prevent corruption

The initiative has "the objective of preventing corruption, fraud in public procurement that we have already seen with Odebrecht, FCC, Blue Apple," said Vásquez.
The deputy of the independent bench, Juan Diego Vásquez, presented this Monday before the Plenary of the National Assembly, a bill that aims to combat corruption within the public procurement process, by making the names of the final beneficiaries public. of legal persons.

It is “a draft law that modifies the public procurement law to ensure that in all public bidding acts, that in all public procurement we know the final beneficiaries of the legal entities that bid with the State, with the interest and objective to prevent corruption, fraud in public contracts that we have already seen with Odebrecht, FCC, Blue Apple, Meco, the list is unfortunately quite long and continues, of cases of people who are bribing, officials asking for money for them and the the people are left without the works they so badly need,” explained Vásquez.

He explained that through this it would be guaranteed that the State can protect itself from before carrying out a public purchase, since it could know if the final beneficiaries are relatives of public officials.

"It is a proposal that is very close to the proposal that we are working on of conflict of interest so that no one who can put his hand in the money of the State can make contracts for himself, as we have been seeing cases in this and other governments," the parliamentarian pointed out.
