Minsa agrees to provide supplies and personnel to the San Miguel Arcángel Hospital

Minsa agrees to provide supplies and personnel to the San Miguel Arcángel Hospital

After five hours of meeting, representatives of the San Miguel Arcángel Hospital (Hisma) and the Health Minister, Luis Francisco Sucre, reached an agreement this Sunday, July 26, regarding the lack of protective equipment for the health personnel who serve Covid-19 patients.

Sucre, at a press conference, said that Minsa promised to provide personal protective equipment for Hisma staff. According to the minister, this will be until the hospital manages to acquire the implements, since they have experienced problems with the purchase process and with suppliers.

They will also deliver medications and contract medical personnel, nurses and assistants. These appointments would be for the care of patients with coronavirus and other diseases.

According to Sucre, hospital workers have been infected with Covid-19 and have had to send many of the staff to quarantine. In addition, in recent months a significant number have resigned.

Please know that here in the Minsa, you have permanent support, he said.

Fabiola Cárdenas, the spokesperson for the Hisma staff, explained in an interview the heartbreaking situation they live in the absence of payments, protective equipment and supplies, as well as exhaustion, stress, terror and impotence.

We are wearing the mask and gown all day. While it is true that there is no proof that the virus doesn't stick to clothing, we could be touching contaminated patients and contaminate ourselves and other patients, she said.
