18 personas víctimas de trata de personas identificadas en lo que va de este año 2020

Minsec: This year Panama has identified 18 human trafficking victims so far

The Ministry of Public Security of Panama (Minseg) reported this Tuesday that so far in 2020, 18 people have been identified as full victims of trafficking in the form of sex trafficking and labor trafficking.
It details that among the victims identified by the Victim Identification and Care Unit of the National Commission against Trafficking, there are both men and women from Colombia, Venezuela, Cuba and Panama.

According to records, this year there has been a higher incidence of labor trafficking with 46%, while sex trafficking reflects 37%, and sexual servitude an index of 4%, consenting to women victims of trafficking who their captors cheat and offer them a job but end up forcing them to perform acts against their will.

Dayra Campos, head of the anti-trafficking office of the Minseg, explained that the Panamanian authorities have provided protection to several cases preliminarily identified as possible victims, among which is a woman of Costa Rican nationality who through the Ministry of Security was helped to return voluntarily to her country.

Likewise, another woman from Nicaragua, who was a victim of trafficking, was inserted into the labor market, through the management of a work permit at the Ministry of Labor, and she got a job in an organization. In addition, assistance and accompaniment were offered to two trafficking victims who indicated that they were victims of domestic violence, this through the Institutional Office against Trafficking in Persons of the Ministry of Security.

Trafficking in persons is a violation of the human rights of the victims, who are denigrated and denied their personal freedom, in these cases both women, men and children are used by traffickers in forced activities to enrich the criminal networks.
