Presidente de Panamá Laurentino Cortizo en el distrito de San Miguelito

Next week could see reopening of certain activities from Block 3 and 4 in some provinces

During a tour in the San Miguelito Traceability Center, the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo, announced that they are evaluating opening some economic activities in the populous district starting next week, in a "prudent" manner.
According to the president, the Rt in San Miguelito has been going down, so the same formula applied in other provinces where an increase in coronavirus cases has not been reported , such as Los Santos and Herrera, could be used.

There are a series of alternatives for next week that are being evaluated, with the health team, with the government team, the private sector, to go step by step opening, explained the president.

He said, that obviously they will take into account hospital capacity. But he added that with the opening of the Figali convention center this weekend, some hospitals such as Modular Hospital in Albrook and the Hospital Complex of the Social Security Fund, will be more relieved from the pressure.

The Government is working on adapting the Figali to place at least 160 beds for coronavirus patients.

This allows us to open some of the activities, and if positive cases are triggered in some areas, we would have the capacity in hospitals to be able to serve them, he added.
