Reloj con la cuenta regresiva rumbo al Bicentenario

Panama celebrates 200th anniversary of its independence from Spain; the countdown begins

This Saturday a clock was set to countdown towards the 200 years of the Independence of Panama from Spain.

During the act that took place in Urracá Park, the Minister of Culture, Carlos Águilar, highlighted the work of the nation's heroes and emphasized that with this activation this clock will mark the hours, minutes and seconds towards the 200th anniversary of our Republic.

He also made a call to reflect on the challenges that must be debated among all about the present and future of Panama, within the framework of the Bicentennial Pact "Closing gaps" that was convened by the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo, the past November 26.

The declaration of independence of Panama from Spain is the emancipatory process developed between November 10 and 21, 1821, which liberates Panama from the Spanish crown, after 321 years of colonial life.

To carry out this celebration, the Committee for the Commemoration of the Bicentennial was installed, in order to enhance the history of our country and organize a series of activities alluding to the date.

A contest was called to create the logo for this celebration, the winner being the design created by Alberto Weand Ortiz, who indicated that it represents the transition of the flags since 1821, the time of the Spanish colony, followed by the flag from the Villa de Los Santos and ends with the tricolor.
