Although negotiations have taken place, the Government of Panama has not concluded an agreement with Johnson & Johnson for the acquisition of its vaccine against COVID-19 Janssen.

"We have not yet made any kind of commitment with Johnson & Johnson, we are in talks, however we have not signed any kind of commitment yet," Sucre said this Wednesday.

In January of this year the National Government presented the National Vaccination Plan, and in one of the four phases the application of a single dose vaccine was contemplated in regions and areas of difficult access, for which they considered the use of the formula from Johnson & Johnson.

Following the decision of the United States health authorities, which ordered the suspension of the use of the Janssen vaccine, from Johnson & Johnson, after the report of six cases of blood clots, the pharmaceutical company itself announced that it would postpone the launch of its immunizer in Europe. , and several countries suspended its use.

Sucre assured that a group of vaccine experts is monitoring all the information that is emerging worldwide, related to the adverse effects of vaccines against COVID-19.

At the moment, Panama has only received vaccines from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer.

The arrival of AstraZeneca vaccines was expected in the coming weeks, by direct negotiation and through the Covax mechanism, however it has also been the object of reports because its use has been associated with the appearance of thrombi. According to the president of Panama, Laurentino Cortizo, he has not yet made a decision on the use of Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
