Panama firefighters paid tribute to colleagues killed in 9/11 attacks

The Americans commemorated this Saturday the 20th anniversary of the attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon.
The Meritorious Fire Department of Panama paid tribute to the 343 New York firefighters who died in the attacks on the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001.

After the lighting of candles, by Colonel Abdiel Solís Pérez, general director of the Meritorious Fire Department, and Katherine Duelhom, Chargé d'Affaires of the United States Embassy in Panama, the symbolic touch of the last alarm call was made and the touch of silence in honor of the fallen firefighters after the attacks.

Solís said that firefighters are the true heroes of the tragedy that occurred 20 years ago, which is why the bravery and courage shown by those firefighters when entering the skyscrapers already beaten to save lives is celebrated.

“The Meritorious Fire Department of the Republic of Panama has wanted to reiterate our humble tribute, with the hope of contributing to keep the memory of such a great sacrifice alive in the hearts of the citizens and, especially, in the hearts of the firefighters,” he pointed out.

The event took place at Station 1 Ricardo Arango and had the participation of Colonel Matilde Torres, deputy director general of the Fire Department, and the commanders of the regional zone of Panama.

The Americans commemorated this Saturday the 20th anniversary of the attacks against the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, which left almost 3,000 dead.
