Panama launches initiative to manage the carbon and water footprint at the organizational level

The initiative will allow organizations in Panama to document their contributions to fulfill their commitments under the Paris Agreement.
The Ministry of the Environment (MiAmbiente) of Panama launched the Reduce Your Corporate Footprint initiative, a voluntary state program for managing the carbon and water footprint at the organizational level.

The program for managing the carbon and water footprint will allow organizations that have legal status to document their contributions to comply with national commitments under the Paris Agreement.

Milciades Pinzón, Minister of the Environment, explained that the initiative establishes a standardized process to identify, calculate, report and verify information related to greenhouse gases generated within the operational limits of organizations in Panama.

For her part, Ligia Castro de Doens, Director of Climate Change at MiAmbiente indicated that the initiative for managing the carbon footprint will allow companies from various sectors such as industry, the financial sector and agriculture to improve their production systems in order to reduce the amount of emissions emitted.

Castro de Doens explained that the calculation and management of the carbon footprint of an organization becomes a tool that will allow it to make decisions to optimize its resources, therefore, reduce costs and improve the well-being of its employees and customers.

Organizations that meet all the requirements will obtain recognition that will certify them as leading businesses in the fight against climate change at the national level.

The initiative uses international methodologies such as the greenhouse gas protocol and ISO standards for its management.
