From 5:00 am on October 25, the Executive Decree that nullifies the total quarantine of Sundays nationwide began to take effect in Panama, after almost seven months of maintaining the measure that was implemented to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
After the first death due to the
coronavirus was detected in the country, a quarantine was established that restricted mobility by gender and time, according to the last digit of the ID and passport, and prevented circulation on Sundays.
Months later the measures were made more flexible and economic activities reactivated, however, the mobility rules were maintained in the provinces of Panama, Panama Oeste and Chiriquí due to their high contagion rate.
After the numbers of positive cases in the country "remained within acceptable margins," according to the Ministry of Health, Executive Decree No. 1222 was issued that lifted the measure.
The document states that the curfew from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am is maintained from Monday to Sunday.
To date, the country accumulates 2,628 deaths from
COVID-19 and 128,515 infections.
