Panama Metro budget $105,000 for cleaning and disinfection train cars

Panama Metro budget $105,000 for cleaning and disinfection train cars

The Panama Metro will allocate $ 105,750 for deep cleaning work to disinfect the trains and wagons of lines 1 and 2, due to the high level of contagion of the coronavirus (Covid-19).
According to the documents published by the Panama Metro, and which are signed by the general director, Héctor Ortega, the disinfection work will cover the seats, floors, ceilings, air ducts, cabins and railings of line 1 will be the responsibility from the company Sicarelle Holdings, which quoted $25 for each train.

Contracting Sicarelle Holdings was done through a direct hiring process, protected by the state of emergency. Metro de Panamá SA received five proposals and chose two; that of Sicarelle Holdings and the offer of the company Hombres de Blanco.

Sicarelle Holdings will carry out the cleaning between 8:00 pm and 4:00 am, as the trains finish the daily route from the Albrook station to the San Isidro area.

Since the company Sicarelle Holdings did not have enough personnel to carry out the disinfection process on the two lines of the Metro, the state entity granted the works on line 2 to a company called 'Hombres de Blanco', which had also offered a price of $25 for each train and the 105 wagons used in the circuit that operates from the San Miguelito station to the Nuevo Tocumen area in East Panama.

For line 1 works, the Metro will pay $ 58,500 while for line 2, the contract will be for $ 47,250

Before Covid-19, about 300,000 people used the two lines of the Metro daily. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, movement has slowed and now only 12% of regular demand is being used.

36,000 passengers are currently moving and they expect to increase to 140,000 in the coming months. On weekends, when absolute quarantine has been decreed, the railway system has stopped operating.

In order to guarantee physical distance, the Panama Metro indicated the seats that should not be used, maintaining approximately one meter of distance between each user. For those who travel standing, there are marked foot images that show where the passanger should be standing.
