Diego Armando Maradona

Panama's football stars mourn the death of Maradona

Panamanian football personalities, including brothers Jorge and Julio Dely Valdés and the 2018 World Cup players Luis Tejada and Felipe Baloy, mourned the death of Argentine Diego Armando Maradona on Wednesday.
Maradona died today at the age of 60 as a result of cardiac arrest at his home in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Jorge Dely Valdés regretted the death of Diego Maradona and told Efe that behind the football legend there are many things that people do not know. Behind Diego there was a great human being.

Jorge was precisely a partner of Hugo Maradona, Diego's younger brother in the Consadole Sapporo of football in Japan.

His brother, Julio César Dely Valdés told Efe that it is a sad day for football, today someone who many consider the best in history left.

The former Spanish Málaga player recalled that he had the opportunity to see Diego on the pitch in 1987, in a friendly match against Germany on the Velez pitch.

Anglo-Panamanian coach Gary Stempel did not hide his regret, pointing out that the news is very sad for all football lovers.

Stempel defined Maradona as a "genius" and a "very complex" character.

What he did in the World Cup was enormous, but what he did in Napoli, winning two titles, with a modest team in the Italian League, that is the work of a genius, he told Efe.

During his time with Napoli, Maradona won two Serie A titles (1986/87 and 1988/89), an Italian Cup (1986/87), the Super Cup (1990) and a UEFA Cup (1988/89).

The Panamanian World Cup players Luis Tejada and Felipe Baloy agreed in their messages published today on social networks that one of the greatest soccer players had played.

'Rest in peace Diego, the best,' Tejada posted on his instagram, while Baloy wrote: 'Rest in Eternal Peace 10, those of us who one day play and love this sport thank you !!!'

The Panamanian Football Federation (Fepafut) and the governmental Panamanian Sports Institute (Pandeporte) also joined in condolences for the departure of the Argentine soccer star.
