Los daños parciales y totales en estructuras de viviendas requerirán un aporte económico de unos B/.10 millones

Preliminary report counts 783 families affected by the floods and rains in Panama

The rains, product of the indirect effects of hurricane Eta, left 783 families affected in Panama, especially in the province of Chiriquí and the Ngäbe Buglé Comarca, a preliminary Environmental Emergency report prepared by the Ministry of Housing and Territorial Planning (Miviot) revealed.
The damages in housing structures will require an economic contribution of about $10 million.

The Miviot indicated that the work tour and inspection was carried out at the national level, but it was concentrated in the most affected areas of Chirica, which are Bambito, Bella Vista, North and South District, Loma Yuca, Altos Corrales, Soloy, Besikó, Coclesito, Corotú Civil, Baco and other sites.

Houses structurally affected by roof blasting, and others completely destroyed by landslides and overflows of the Chiriquí Viejo River and Fonseca River and adjacent streams were detected, and the demolition and relocation of the homes was recommended, prohibiting new constructions and the relocation of 150 families to safe housing.

Due to the bad weather conditions and the deterioration of the roads as a result of the flooding of the rivers, the Miviot indicated that teams of workers are still evaluating damages to other homes in the region.

The entity announced that it is planned to build 300 basic housing units throughout the national territory. In Chiriquí 100 basic units will be built, Comarca Ngäbe Buglé 50 basic units, Bocas del Toro 10 units, Coclé 10 houses, Colón 10 units, Darién 5 units, Herrera 5 houses, Los Santos 5 units, Panama 10 units, Veraguas 10 houses and Panama West 35 units.
