Private sector delivers 47 proposals for economic reactivation to the Government

61% of the proposals presented by the private sector to the Government of Panama for economic reactivation are executable in the short term.
Representatives of the private sector of Panama on Monday delivered to the National Government a total of 47 proposals for the economic reactivation of the country.

Julio De La Lastra, president of the National Council of Private Enterprise (CoNEP), said that the actions were presented to the President of the Republic of Panama, Laurentino Cortizo, and his government team.

"The 47 proposals that the private sector has presented to the National Government today, aspire to the possible generation of an approximate 140 thousand direct jobs, in addition to 68 thousand indirect jobs," said De La Lastra, highlighting that the role of the Government as a facilitator for the execution of this plan is key. He also explained that this represents a consolidated investment of 4 billion dollars.

"The proposed proposals are broken down into 16 of a transversal nature, affecting all sectors, and 31 of a sectoral nature, which directly impacts sectors such as energy, financial, industrial, construction, agriculture and tourism," said the president of CoNEP, noting that this will allow to maintain the reactivated jobs, generate complementary activity and the recovery of jobs lost during the pandemic.

For his part, the Minister of Commerce and Industries, Ramón Martínez, stressed that many actions included in this package coincide with actions already underway by the National Government.

It was agreed to create a Joint Commission for the analysis, evaluation, implementation and follow-up of the proposals.

Antonio Fletcher, member of the Reactivation Commission, pointed out that 61% of the proposals are executable in the short term, 35% in the medium term and 4% in the long term. Among the short-term projects, the recovery of spaces in townships and the reactivation of the construction sector stand out.
