Scottie Scheffler, the world's top-ranked golfer, was arrested by Louisville police early Friday morning, hours before his tee time at the PGA Championship.

Jail records indicate the 27-year-old was released before the second round began.

Scheffler faces felony charges for second-degree assault of a police officer, along with misdemeanor charges for reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals.

The confusion reportedly arose from Scheffler’s attempt to enter the Valhalla Golf Club, where a pedestrian was killed by a shuttle bus earlier.

The situation escalated when a police officer, who attempted to stop Scheffler, was injured.

Scheffler called the incident a misunderstanding and expressed his condolences for the accident victim's family.

His lawyer, Steven Romines, contends that Scheffler is faultless.

Despite the ordeal, Scheffler ended the second round tied for third place at 9-under, trailing leader Xander Schauffele by three strokes.
