Murdoch Family Succession Battle Begins

Murdoch, 93, contests with his children over control of News Corp and Fox News. The private legal case occurs in Washoe County Courthouse, Reno, with media barred from attending.
A court battle in Nevada, USA, has commenced to determine the future control of Rupert Murdoch's media empire and a family trust worth £14.9bn.

The 93-year-old media mogul is contesting with his three eldest children—Prudence, Elisabeth, and James—over who will gain the majority of voting shares to manage News Corp and Fox News upon his death.

It is reported that Murdoch seeks to amend the trust, established in 1999, to ensure son Lachlan gains control without interference from his siblings.

The private case takes place at Washoe County Courthouse in Reno, Nevada, with media barred from the proceedings.

Murdoch's media empire includes significant stakes in News Corporation and Fox, with major publications like the Wall Street Journal in the US and The Times in the UK.

According to sources, the family struggle has drawn comparisons to the TV series 'Succession,' although the Murdoch family has not commented on this.

As the court battle unfolds, it explores both familial tensions and significant commercial interests within one of the world's most influential media empires.
