Leonardo Bertulazzi, a former member of the far-left militant group Red Brigades, has been arrested in Argentina after more than 40 years as a fugitive.

Bertulazzi, sentenced in absentia to 27 years in prison for crimes including kidnapping and criminal association, was living as a refugee in Argentina, a status revoked under President Javier Milei's administration.

The Italian Red Brigades orchestrated violent attacks during Italy’s 'Years of Lead,' including the 1978 kidnapping and murder of former Prime Minister Aldo Moro.

Bertulazzi was involved in the 1977 kidnapping of naval engineer Piero Costa, which funded terrorist activities, including Moro’s abduction.

The arrest, facilitated by collaboration between Italian and Argentine authorities and Interpol, may face delays in extradition due to ongoing legal appeals.
