Ruiz: Panama has doses for when FDA and CDC approve vaccination of children from 5 years old

Pharmaceutical Pfizer announced that its vaccine against COVID-19 works in children between 5 and 11 years old.
Panama currently has enough doses against COVID-19 for when the international organizations approve vaccination for children between 5 and 11 years of age, this was confirmed on Tuesday by the Minister for Health Affairs, Eyra Ruiz.

Similarly, she pointed out that the country has the necessary vaccines for the application of the third dose to immunosuppressed citizens.

"We have enough doses to be able to apply these third doses and reinforcements if necessary, we also have doses for when the FDA and CDC approve the vaccination of children five years of age and older, there are enough doses for this entire population, so Panamanians must be Rest assured that the National Government has been able to organize itself adequately so that it has the necessary doses for all those Panamanians who need it, ”Ruiz said on RPC Radio.

He recalled that the Cabinet Council approved the acquisition of an additional 5 million anticovid doses.

The statements follow the announcement made by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer that its vaccine against COVID-19 works in children between 5 and 11 years old.

On the other hand, Ruiz clarified that booster dose and third dose are two different concepts, explaining that the booster dose is one that is applied every 8 to 12 months to all citizens who do not have any pathology or immunosuppression.

While the third dose consists of the one that is placed in patients with immunosuppression or with marked degrees of decreased defenses, who use corticosteroids, so they need the vaccine before that period of time to be able to level the values that the general population would have.
