Shipment of 108,810 doses of Pfizer vaccine to Panama delayed

It was the fifteenth batch with doses of Pfizer's covid-19 vaccine that would arrive in Panama, to reinforce the immunization strategy.
Tuesday May 18 planned arrival in Panama of a new shipment of vaccine covid-19 to Pfizer, with 108.810 doses.

However, the US pharmaceutical company informed the Panamanian Health authorities that this fifteenth batch would not arrive today.

Elvia Lau, director of Pharmacy and Drugs of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) said that the pharmaceutical company Pfizer indicated that it had problems in shipping.

Lau assured that the delay is not related to the number of doses, the largest so far, since it was stipulated in the schedule.

For his part, Health Minister Luis Sucre reported that Pfizer will deliver the batch this Wednesday.

The Minsa indicated that this new batch is intended to reinforce the immunization strategy for the application of the first dose to adults over 60 years of age, pregnant women and teachers in the 9-1 circuit in the province of Veraguas, and circuits 4-3 and 4-4 from the province of Chiriquí.

In addition, this batch will allow to cover the second doses in circuits 8-4 (Balboa, Chepo, Chimán and Taboga) and 8-7 (Ancón, Bella Vista, Betania, Calidonia, Curundú, El Chorrillo, Pueblo Nuevo, San Felipe, and Saint Ana).

With the arrival of this new batch, Pfizer will exceed one million doses sent to Panama since last January 20, highlighted the Minsa.

According to the Expanded Immunization Program of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) in Panama, 844,078 doses of the vaccine against covid-19 have been applied to date.

Currently, in Panama doses of vaccines against covid-19 developed by Pfizer and AstraZeneca are being applied.
