Staying at home becoming the new 'norm', warns MINSA

The COVID-19 pandemic, which keeps people at their homes, will change the way we interact. The Ministry of Health (MINSA) insists that hand washing and biosecurity measures will become part of the daily life to win the battle against COVID-19.

The minister, Rosario Turner, warned that the reproductive number of cases (Rt) is 1.15 for the country and pondered the effort of the majority of the population that has responsibly complied with the quarantine. However, he noted that in Colón, Coclé and Veraguas even the Rt is greater than 1, while in Chiriquí the behavior has improved. He called on all citizens to comply with the quarantine.

The results of the statistics reveal that Panama has a health system that has not collapsed, and that there are enough beds in hospitals and intensive care rooms to meet the demand.

In response to a question from journalists about how close are we to lift the quarantine, the minister reiterated that the opening will be carried out gradually, and also will take into account the Rt of each province, the risk of economic activity and responsiveness.

The “new norm”

According to MINSA, the latest figures of people who violate the national quarantine, issued to prevent the spread of COVID-19, show that part of the population has not understood that staying home is the slogan to save not only their lives, but their families, friends and neighbors.

The National Government evaluates the mechanisms to take the country towards this “new norm”, but it will be carried out gradually and based on scientific criteria that guarantee the peace and health of all, regardless of race, religion, nationality or class. Social.

Epidemiological report

According to the cut for today, 484 recovered patients have been reported, for a cumulative of 2,455; while 179 new positive cases have been detected for a total of 6,200.

Meanwhile, in home isolation are 5,182 people, 176 deceased, hospitalized in ward 270 and 88 patients in intensive care; while today 961 new tests have been carried out, to total 28,795 nationwide.

It is important to note that along with the fight against COVID-19, MINSA has not let its guard down in the war against dengue, which is why nebulization operations have been activated throughout the country to eradicate the Aedes mosquito.
