After criticism for the decision to announce the opening of some economic sectors, such as beauty salons, but maintaining the mobility restriction, the Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, announced this Wednesday, August 12 that they are evaluating making flexible those measures that they established to stop the spread of Covid-19.
But he warned that that will depend on the cases that are presented in the next 15 days.
"If the figures continue to drop, we are going to grant them, not two, possibly four hours so that they can then be in the different places and our Panamanian ladies can make all the arrangements they need," he said.
"If we free up time we will cause crowds," he added.
Currently, in the provinces of Panama and West Panama, the mobility restriction by gender and ID number is in force, from Monday to Friday. The women go out on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and the men on Tuesday and Thursday, depending on the last ID number and only for two hours.
Social networks were flooded with memes about how little time people visiting beauty salons will have.
Even this afternoon, deputy Yanibel Ábrego questioned Minister
Sucre, in a session of the Budget committee.
Minister, a dye is not done in two hours, she said.
On Tuesday,
Sucre announced that starting next Monday, August 17, beauty salons and barbershops will be able to serve clients, by appointment, with screens between each cubicle and without exceeding 50% of the capacity of the premises.
Likewise, the sale of vehicles and the opening of retail stores will be allowed. In the latter case, customers must collect the merchandise in the parking lot or at the door of the establishment.
He also announced that public and private construction works will be allowed to resume, with 'significant progress in execution'. To date, there are 84 approved projects: 69 in which the contractor is a State institution, and 15 from the private sector.
