The University of Panama will analyze the CSS request to use the gym

The Academic Council of the University of Panama (UP) will analyze this Wednesday, December 16, the request of the Social Security Fund (CSS), to allow the use of the gym, located in front of the facilities of the Dr. Arnulfo Arias Madrid Hospital Complex to receive patients with COVID-19.
Eduardo Flores, rector of the UP confirmed the request for the gymnasium and a plot that is adjacent, whose requests will be evaluated by the university authorities.

In the note dated November 11 and signed by the director of the CSS, Enrique Lau Cortés, it says: on behalf of the Panamanian health system we went to the University of Panama to request support, in this national health emergency so that allow us to use the gym.

They maintain that the use of that area does not entail structural effects on the aforementioned facility and that all the expenses generated will be financed by the National Government.

According to the note, with the economic opening the course of the COVID-19 pandemic has increased exponentially and has led us to implement strategies to guarantee the population the beds necessary to receive medical care.

It should be noted that among the options being planned is the adaptation of spaces such as hotels, schools and gyms.
