Las restricciones del COVID-19 provocaron la baja de pasajeros

Tocumen Airport has so far lost over 6 million passengers due to Covid-19

In the first seven months of 2020, little over 3.5 million passengers passed through the Tocumen international airport, which is almost 6.2 million travelers less compared to the same period of the previous year, according to a report on Friday, August 7, 2020.

The report highlights that the air restrictions, imposed in Panama since March 22 by the COVID-19 pandemic, negatively impacted the flow of passengers, compared to the performance registered from January to July 2019, when the main air terminal in the country experienced the passage through its facilities of 9.7 million travelers.

The data was provided by the Tocumen International Airport Planning and Strategy Vice Presidency, and this highlights that from March 22 to July 31 of this year, the aeroterminal handled a total of 33,392 people as humanitarian flights and repatriation.

Some 6,553 Panamanians have entered the country through the Tocumen airport, while 18,966 foreigners left through the air terminal to various destinations and 7,873 people used the facilities as special connecting flights, through 423 humanitarian operations.

Countries like Argentina; The United States, Brazil and Mexico lead the list with the most humanitarian flights from Panama.

Executive Decree No. 300 of July 31 authorized the establishment of the Controlled Operations Center for the interconnection of International Commercial Aviation; which will allow limited air operations for transit through the Tocumen Airport, for the departure of passengers and the controlled entry of Panamanians or residents to the country.
