Tokyo 2020: Panama delegation parades in inauguration

The delegation of Panama was present at the inauguration of the atypical Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 with the flag of the country and the athletes.

Alonso Edward and Atheyna Bylon led the Panamanian delegation represented in the Olympic Games of Tokyo 2020.

The opening ceremony began at 6:00 am, Panama time, with some presentations, including a light show and a stadium show, after the flag of Japan, the host country, was presented.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games were postponed for a year due to the coronavirus pandemic, and although an attempt was made until the end to have an audience, the health reality did not allow it.

The delegation of athletes for Panama were also accompanied by Damaris Young, president of the Panama Olympic Committee, and Héctor Brands, General Director of Pandeportes at the Tokyo stadium.

Christofer Jurado of cycling and Jorge Castelblanco of Marathon did not participate in the opening ceremony, because, Jurado begins its participation this Friday, while Castelblanco will arrive in Japan on July 29.

At the opening ceremony, a minute of silence was granted for the victims of COVID-19.

Despite the fact that the 68,000 seats in the Olympic Stadium were empty, the ceremony had the presence, reduced, of some personalities such as the Japanese emperor Naruhito or the American first lady, Jill Biden.

Panama, as scheduled, was the 134th delegation to parade through the Tokyo stadium.
