UN provides Panama with supplies for communities affected by hurricanes Eta and Iota

Basic supplies were delivered this Tuesday by the United Nations Organization (UN) to the Government of Panama to serve the communities affected by the passage of hurricanes Eta and Iota, at the beginning of November, which caused losses of lives and the destruction of houses, roads and agricultural crops.
Cristian Munduate, Resident Coordinator, in the company of representatives of the UN agency, funds and programs in Panama formally delivered the donation to the Chancellor of the Republic, Alejandro Ferrer; to the Minister of Social Development, Maria Inés Castillo and the Vice Minister of Multilateral Affairs and Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Erika Mouynes.

Among the products and supplies delivered by the United Nations in Panama are: thermal blankets, tents, hand and bath soaps, milk containers, bottled water, disposable diapers for boys and girls, sanitary pads, alcohol, masks, disinfectants, among other essential products.

The agencies, funds and programs that contributed humanitarian aid are UNHCR, FAO, UN Women, IOM, UNDP, UNICEF and UNOPS.

The supplies delivered will be distributed by the National Government among the families that have been most affected by the landslides and overflowing of the rivers in the province of Chiriquí, Bocas del Toro, Comarca Nägbe - Bugle and Darién.

The delivery ceremony featured the company by Linda Maguire, UNDP representative; Adoniram Sanches, Subregional coordinator and FAO representative; and Renee Cuijpers, UNHCR Deputy Regional Representative.
