On Thursday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio oversaw the confiscation of a second aircraft connected to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s administration.

The plane, a Dassault Falcon 200 EX with the tail number YV-3360, has been held in the Dominican Republic since April 2024 and is subject to US sanctions.

According to Edwin Lopez, the country attaché for US Homeland Security Investigations in Santo Domingo, the aircraft was bought in 2017 by the state oil company PDVSA and was subsequently serviced with parts sourced from the United States, which breaches export control and sanctions regulations.

This event comes after a similar seizure in September 2024 when another plane used by senior Maduro officials was flown into Florida.

A US Treasury statement from 2020 indicated that the previously seized aircraft was utilized in 2019 to transport high-ranking members of the Maduro regime, including for a trip to an OPEC meeting in the United Arab Emirates.

US officials have described the recovered planes as containing valuable intelligence, including flight logs, transponder information, and personal details of personnel from Venezuela’s Air Force.

These measures are part of a larger US campaign to disrupt financial channels and assets associated with Maduro’s regime amid ongoing tensions between Caracas and Washington.
