Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez has accused the Western-backed opposition of orchestrating a 'media coup' following widespread rioting after President Nicolas Maduro's election victory.

Protests erupted when the national electoral authority declared Maduro the winner, with opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez claiming he was the rightful victor and accusing the government of vote rigging.

Padrino condemned acts of sabotage and the destruction of official buildings, attributing the unrest to a US-backed plan.

Maduro secured over 51% of the vote, compared to Gonzalez's 44%, marking his third consecutive term.

Padrino called for dialogue and adherence to Venezuelan laws, warning that violence leads to nothing positive.
