Worker from a youth shelter in Colón sentenced to 14 years in prison

The conviction was given for aggravated libidinous acts and corruption of minors due to an act in 2018, to a minor under 12 years of age.
The Superior Court of Appeals confirmed the sentence of 14 years in prison to a 54-year-old man, for aggravated libidinous acts and corruption of minors.

This is a man who worked as a manual worker in a youth shelter in the province of Colón, who as an accessory penalty was disqualified from the exercise of positions, trades or profession in parks, nursery schools, fields or sports centers and surrounding areas or any place where minors regularly gather to practice activities for their integral development.

The sentence was given for an act registered in 2018, to the detriment of a minor under 12 years of age.

The convicted person, as an accessory penalty, was prohibited from exercising positions, trades or pressures in parks, kindergartens, recreational areas where minors are concentrated, for a term of five years, once the main sentence has been served.

The judges concluded the guilt of the accused due to the existence of conclusive elements concerning the commission of the crimes.

In Panama, in 2020, several complaints of abuse and mistreatment were filed in several shelters financed by the State. For this last case, there are at least 8 people charged and two high-ranking officials resigned from their post.
