US Border Patrol States 'No Plans' to Remove Razor Wire Installed in Texas
The US Border Patrol has no intention of removing the razor wire that Texas authorities installed along a section of the US-Mexico border, as reported by a senior CBP official.
This decision comes despite a DHS ultimatum for Texas to clear all barriers from Shelby Park in Eagle Pass, a deadline that expired on Friday.
The CBP official stated clearly, "Border Patrol won't be taking down the Texas-installed concertina wire. We'll maintain our current stance and coordinate with Texas' public safety and military departments for any necessary emergency access."
The White House and Texas have seen heightened tensions following a Supreme Court decision allowing the federal government to remove the wire set up by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who has accused President Biden of neglecting immigration laws and referred to the influx of migrants as an "invasion." Abbott has vowed on X, a social media platform, to protect the Texas border in lieu of federal action.
On Thursday, 25 Republican governors supported Abbott, criticizing the federal government for challenging Texas's efforts to guard against illegal immigration, drugs, and potential terrorists.
Conversely, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre condemned Abbott's measures as reckless political maneuvers that interfere with Border Patrol operations meant to preserve lives.
